Wegovy explained
Wegovy is prescription semaglutide for weight management in eligible patients. Adults considering it in Houston have injection and tablet options, with different instructions. Medical suitability, ongoing costs and a plan for follow-up all matter when choosing treatment.
Molecule first
Wegovy contains semaglutide and supports weight reduction and maintenance alongside changes in eating and activity. The weekly injection and daily tablet offer different ways to take it. Tablets require a morning fasting routine, while the injection can be taken with or without food. The choice therefore involves more than a preference about needles: other medicines, your routine and the reason for treatment matter too. Follow the instructions for the formulation you are actually prescribed, including what to do after a missed dose.
Both formulations have adult weight-management indications and are approved to reduce major cardiovascular events in adults with established cardiovascular disease and overweight or obesity. Other uses and age limits depend on the formulation. That differs from Ozempic treatment, despite the shared ingredient. A personalized weight loss plan should consider how the proposed product fits your health and daily life. Choosing between formulations is a prescribing decision, and neither the numerical dose nor another person's experience provides a reliable way to select or switch treatment.
How it is prescribed
BMI, conditions, family history and current medications. The thresholds are BMI 30, or 27 with a documented weight-related condition.
The lowest dose for the first four weeks. This is about tolerance rather than effect and it is not skipped.
Increases at roughly four-week intervals, each conditional on the last being tolerated.
The dose that holds the effect and that you can stay on, which is not always the top of the range.
Approval
For adult weight management, BMI requirements commonly mean obesity, or overweight with a weight-related condition. A medical assessment also checks whether the benefits justify the risks. Wegovy is contraindicated with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, MEN 2 or a previous serious allergy to the product. It is not recommended with severe gastroparesis. Current medicines, pregnancy plans and previous digestive problems are part of the discussion. Meeting a numerical threshold does not settle all those questions or promise a prescription.
The financial decision needs similar detail. Wegovy medication costs depend on the prescribed product and how it is paid for. Verify current coverage for the exact indication and formulation, and ask what remains payable at the pharmacy. Appointment or weight loss program fees may be additional. Establish what ongoing reviews involve and how you would discuss side effects, an interruption in supply or a change in affordability before starting a treatment intended for continuing weight management.

Common questions
Practical answers about tablets, ongoing care, coverage and treatment precautions.
I had spent months confused about which of the two names I needed. Ten minutes here sorted it out and the prescription matched what I was actually treating.
Prior authorisation was refused first time. They helped with the appeal wording and the second attempt went through.
Four weeks at each step, no exceptions. Slower than I wanted at the time and clearly correct in hindsight.
The nausea in week five was real but it passed in about ten days exactly as described.

Next step
Which semaglutide product is right depends on what is being treated and what your plan will fund. Both are settled at the consultation.
